It Grooves

Having grown up in and around a vibrant gospel music community, gospel music is a large part of my music background as well as my life. Both traditional and contemporary gospel music inspires and influences my musical compositions in many ways. In the string quartet, It Grooves, its influence can be found in the quasi-improvisatory melodies, syncopated rhythms and extended harmonies. The middle pizzicato and percussive section pays homage to one my musical heroes, William Grant Still, whose own string quartet makes use of knocking on the instruments.
